The Best Rap Album of June 2016 - Handshakes with Snakes by Apathy

A lot of albums where dropped in June, there are lots of other websites that you can hit to get an entire listing I don't do that here.

The purpose of this website is to provide you with the dopest albums released each month and them my pick of the best of those select few.

Four outstanding albums where released in June of 2016 let's get in it.

Coming in fourth, believe it or not was dropped by an old head icon of the game. The Juice Crew veteran Craig G released his surprisingly good album I Rap And Go Home.

Craig G doesn't bring the spectacular he just fires the good NYC urban boom bap hip hop that the culture was and still is based upon.

Fortunately for us none of it is corny. You won't be skipping any tracks or raising your car windows as to not be embarrassed while listening. The shit is good from flows, to lyrics to beats. You may not buy it but you definitely will want to check it out on your streaming service for that familiar lyrical hip hop.

Landing in at third was Reef the Lost Cauze and Bear-One with their album Furious Styles.

No youngins to the game Reef is a veteran out of Philadelphia and has been a member of the groups Army of the Pharoahs and The JuJu Mob. His link with producer Bear-One hit the sweet spot of real hip hop.

These cats don't do that fuck boy shit this is grown man music from dudes who have immersed themselves in this hip hop culture. I am sure they'd like commercial success but the purpose of this album was to stand on the shoulders of the greats who came before them and put for their best effort in respect of the genre and they succeeded. You have got to buy this joint.

You have to saying to yourself would could possibly have topped those albums, just hold on I got you.

Hitting my list in second place is the album Collect Call by Demrick. Umm what's that? You never heard of him and I couldn't possibly be right? Well jokes on you fool.

I am almost at a loss for words I mean this one came clear out of the blue.

Originally from Philly, now living in Cali and known for doing songs with Xzibit, Snoop Dogg and being a disciple of B-Real from Cypress Hill I have to admit I was expecting something that I wouldn't like. But let me tell you, this cat almost took the top of my head off.

You can tell immediately that this dude is someone who takes hip hop seriously with his raw East Coast street lyrics and flow combined with that west coast emphasis on the musicality makes for one of the most serious hip hop albums in years.. You have to add this one to the playlist immediately.

The best rap album of June 2016 is Handshakes with Snakes by Apathy.

Another former member of Army of the Pharaohs the Connecticut based Apathy has taken his many years of experience in the game and love for hip hop and turned in one the the best albums of the past ten years.

That turn that hip hop took after 9/11 derailed the movement of the culture Apathy not only stopped the speeding train of mumbling, nursery rhyme auto-tuned fuck boy shit, he picked the entire train up and put the culture back on track with Handshakes with Snakes.

Don't believe me? Get a glass or blunt of your favorite whatever, play this album  and tell me everything isn't suddenly right with the world again. Yeah, it's that fuckin' good.

The Best Rap Album of May 2016 - Views by Drake

Drake's album Views didn't hit TIDAL until May so I am reviewing it for May and it is by far the best album released this month.

Homeboy Sandman drop his latest album, Kindness For Weakness and there are five solid joints but I found the rest of it disappointing.

Future Heroes batted .500 on their six song EP  Word Art so it might be worth giving it a listen if you care.

Mistah F.A.B. put out his album Son of a Pimp, Pt.2 and it has seven really good songs. Unfortunately its seven out of a total of 21 songs. This album is another case of the artist running things and not having an A&R or executive producer make him get rid of filler songs.

Roc Nation released Belly's third album Another Day in Paradise. It's a solid well produced album but there is nothing special here to me. Be sure to give it a listen before buying it is all I'm saying.

Killah Priest and Bryan Ford got together to release this month their unusual work For The Future Of Hip-Hop

I would have liked to have listened to Masta Ace's new album The Falling Season but since its not on TIDAL I can't and I refuse to give apple a dime of my money.

If the rumors are true and Jay sells TIDAL to apple I'm done with it and will go back to Rhapsody but let's see what happens.

This rest of the albums released this month I didn't care for at all and you know how I get down, I don't dog and drag artists for sport. If I don't fuck with your shit and I think it's trash I just don't mention it.

The Best Rap Album of April 2016 - Free Will by Freeway

When I read about all the artists dropping albums in April I was eagerly awaiting what might be the best month so far this year for rap albums. Well, I've been doing this long enough to know better and yes I was disappointed again.

If every other album isn't on some lazy trap-house  beats and lollipop lyrics old heads who should have sat down years ago are straight embarrassing themselves.

In keeping with the spirit of the blog which is not to name and tear down artists I simply won't mention the sucky albums.

Let's get right to it shall we.

I was really not expecting much when I put the Freeway album on my playlist. Freeway has been sick for awhile so just seeing the brother put out anything was a good look. I have always like this cat.

To my surprise this joint was smoking.

First of all Freeway's flow is as ferocious and intelligent as ever but the production of the music was really what took me aback most. This shit is actually pretty hot. I'm sorry I doubted dude and Babygrande Records. My bad homie.

You must check out this joint if you really love hip hop.

Oh and I have no opinion on Drake's album because as of May 3, 2016 he has not released it on TIDAL so it will go into the May folder for reviews. Or whatever month it appears on TIDAL.

The best rap album of April 2016 was Free Will by Freeway. Who'd a thunk it.

The Best Rap Album of March 2016 - He Has Risen by Smoke Dza

N.O.R.E. fans will be happy to hear his new Drunk Uncle album. The old N.O.R.E. formula is still there but there is too much contemporary trap sounding shit for my taste but hey some of you people like that stuff so knock yourselves out.
I don't normally review mix-tapes but special shout out to Cardi B for her joint Gangsta Bitch Music. She has taken the baton of this generation's combination of Charo and Lil Kim and did a damn good job. Do it girl.

Oddisee dropped a dope new album titled Alwasta. You know Oddisee is going to hit you with dope hip hop beats and that easy rhyme flow and it was the runner up to this month's pick for best album. If you are a fan of rap music you have to check for Oddisee fo sho.

Smoke Dza is that hard Harlem cat who is not going to allow the current landscape of rap music to influence his art. He stays true to his voice and his pen and I can't stress enough how refreshing that is. Intelligent street rhymes, rugged voice and that East Coast Boom Bap, god damn I love it.

One more hot joint and Oddisee would have had him but as of this writing the best rap album of March 2016 is He Has Risen by Smoke Dza. Get it and don't get ahead of yourself.

The Best Rap Album of February 2016 - Life of Pablo by Kanye West

There was a lot of music released on February, most of it not so hot.

The three best albums were: Life of Pablo by Kanye West, STATIK KXNG by STATIK KXNG and Bo:The Legend of the Water Dragon by Agallah.

Although I really dig that lyrical fire from Agallah and KXNG in all honesty, Kanye's album was by far the best. Not every song is a heater and many may disagree but hey, it's my blog.

The Best Rap Album of January 2016 - Rawest Alive by Tyga

Let's get something straight. Just because I name an album the best one for that month doesn't mean I think its a great album unless I specifically say so. It's just the best one released that month, that is all.
